The Shift Youth Council is an all-volunteer group that seeks to generate creative ideas and projects that empower young people through participation, while strengthening the voice of youth by informing the community on important youth issues.
With monthly meetings, The Shift will focus on important youth issues and raising community awareness, fundraising and lobbying. Meetings may be attended by experienced community members to help mentor The Shift council on areas of importance. The Shift projects will be created by the group to help make the local community a better place for youth.
The Shift is focused on wellbeing and personal development which is fundamental to making the shift from school to workplace and community participation. Already participants have contributed to the success of Openlight by volunteering their time to cater (cook meals) for the Youth Camps. The Shift also works with community and social groups including Rotary on community improvement projects.
Openlight Interactive Recreation Room.
Thanks to a very generous $5,000 sponsorship by Rotary Club of Unley, a pilot program was launched in February 2020, where 10 participants are project managing the renovation of the Campsite Recreation Room to a new Interactive Educational facility. This is a joint community partnership with Rotary Club of Unley, with many of their members volunteering alongside The Shift participants.
We cannot thank the Rotary Club of Unley enough for their support, encouragement and participation in this program.
Annually all The Shift Councils will come together for a camp experience. The camp experience will be a chance to showcase the community improvements made by each council as well as celebrate the year’s achievements.
